Beaches to Check Out in the Bay Area
1. Bean Hollow
Although Bean Hollow discourages swimming due to dangerous conditions, this beach has many other attractions. There are places to fish, hike, picnic, or just sit and enjoy the calm beauty of the beach. Make sure to stop by before fall starts and whisks away your free time.
Zmudowski features some of the best fishing along the Northern California coast. Additionally, there is the Pajaro River estuary, maintained by a national reserve, as well as fabulous bird watching and even estuary! Get to Zmudowski for a day of activities surrounded by nature.
3. Muir Beach
Muir Beach is a classic Northern California beach, and for good reason. There are some of the most beautiful hiking trails surrounding the beach, providing beautiful views of the water. It is also one of the seemingly few beaches that provides good swimming. Between the wildlife, the scenery and the water itself, Muir Beach is the perfect beach for a day-vacation.
4. Ocean Beach
Ocean Beach is one of the lesser-known areas of San Francisco, and makes it the perfect location for anybody looking for a pause from the bustle of city life. There are funky shops and tasty cafés surrounding the beach. Although there isn’t any swimming allowed at Ocean Beach, it is a great place to relax in the sand and enjoy the serenity of the beach. Bonfires are also allowed most nights.
5. Glass Beach
Glass Beach is not your everyday beach. What was once trash thrown over the side of the cliffs overlooking glass beach has been reverted into thousands of beautiful glass gems of all different colors that color the shore. Come to treasure hunt special pieces of glass and to picnic on top of the cliffs overlooking the water.
